IN, OUT & FOREVER – Menswear this summer

What’s IN????
Resort-wear
Many of my guy friends have told me that I write very less about men’s fashion…………….I believe them totally. I also believe that menswear in our country is yet to reach a tipping point since there are not many designers who create clothing line for men. Men are just starting to get a bit more conscious about their dressing style now…………..thanks to our celebrities who somehow motivate them in a good fashion way. This summers the menswear trend which gets my vote has to ‘Resort Wear’…………..arises a question what actually is ‘Resort Wear’????? It is better explained as a collection inspired by the tropical hot-spots of the world comes a comfortable, light weight, casual range which can be worn all year around and are easy to carry. Generally made from cotton, jute and microfiber, it consists of nautical striped T-shirts,short sleeve shirts, lightweight jackets & coats, breathable trousers and pleated shorts in pastels or lighter colours. Better example would be a colourful Hawaiian shirt initiated this trend but somehow avoid wearing those except when you are in Hawaii. Look much more trendy with this new designs be it at a club, party, hanging out with friends or on a date. Designers like Riyaz Ganji, Troy Costa, Rohit Gandhi, Rahul Khanna, Gaurav Gupta have already displayed their Resort wear collection at the fashion weeks.
What’s OUT????
Handsome men like Ranbir & Arjun can never go out of style, but pairing jeans with blazers is so out of fashion. Pairing a shirt or a T-shirt is very much acceptable but to put on a blazer as well seems so wrong. There are amazing trouser fits available in the market to suit individual body frame…………….why not pair the blazer with pants instead of denim. You can either be casual or formal but mix & match of both is a disaster. If you are thinking of wearing this attire, drop the idea………….instead go for casual blazers with trousers as seen in the resort wear collection.
What is Classic???
Achkan and Bandhgala Suits
Classic, classic, classic…………………..any man of any age, any body type and any skin colour looks amazing in an Achkan or a Jodhpuri suit also know as ‘Bandhgala’. This I can confidently say is what we can offer to the West when it comes to dressing formally. One can get to see people wearing ‘Bandhgala’ at parties, weddings, red carpet events or meeting the Indian President. Celebrities like Aamir Khan, Anil Kapoor, Amitabh & Abhishek Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan, Imran Khan, A.R.Rahman and the list is endless………….have been seen working this style on several occassions. Even our Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh represents his country abroad wearing a ‘Bandhgala suit’ and Chacha Nehru sported one so elegantly. Have I given you enough reasons why this style is evergreen???? So make sure you have one in basic black if you are not much into bling or detail work. For the summer season try combining an unbuttoned Bandhgala jacket with a cotton kurta or opt for a bandhgala in a lightweight fabric to beat the heat.
